Yeterday, I went to the US Open. I will tell you more about it in a different entry. Anyway, my dad and I always go and lately my dad is taking people with us. Last year we took my dad's boss and his wife and then this year we took my friend Lily and her dad. The one famiy that will always come with us is the Macnamara's (I don't think I got their name right, oh well). You know how when your family is really close to another, you call them uncle, aunt? Well, that's what we do with them. My dad has known Dan (my uncle) since college. My two totally awesome cousins are Conner and Devin. They have always treated me like family and try not to lose me in the crowd. I don't know what I would do without them. Conner has been in college (this is his last year) and I haven't seen him for a long time. He doesn't go to the US Open anymore cause he goes to college in Ireland (don't ask me why). Devin stopped going a while ago. But, this summer, when my dad told me that Devin and Dan were coming to the US Open with us, I got so excited.
So, yesterday, we went to the US Open with the Dinoffs (Lily and her dad Rob). We went to the Court where Dan and Devin said they would be and sat down and watched them play. Then we decided to leave and go get lunch. It was kinda early but we were hungry. I had pizza and coke. And then Lily and I went around by ourselves. I added Rob's cell and Dan's cell to my phone. Later, I called my dad and asked him where he was cause I was gonna call Dan and tell him where he could find my dad (since we hadn't found them yet). My dad said that Dan was with them. Finally, Lily and I met up with her dad and my dad. Then we went to Court 4 where Dan said him and Devin would be. So, we went there, sat in the second row (really close to the tennis players) and then Dan called. He thought I was my mom, which was scary. He asked me where I was and I said at Court 4 and then I stood up to see if I saw him and there he was, three benchs up. At first I didn't reconginize Devin. I thought he was Conner because he was taller, and looked almost like Conner. I started freaking out. I thought it was Conner!! And then he turned around I reconginized him right away!! He was my totally sweet cousin Devin!! I was so happy to see them. Dan and Devin came down and sat on the bench behind us. "Hey Emma!" Devin said. Something about him seemed different to me. I couldn't figure out what. We couldn't see the other guy playing on the other side of the court so we moved up a couple rows. Devin sat on one side of Dan and I sat on the other. My dad, Lily and Rob sat behind us. There was still something different about him, but what? Yea, he was really quiet (which I admit, is not him at all. When he was younger, he would talk alot). After we watched some of that game, we went to the subway. As we were walking out of the US Open, I talked to Dan and Devin walked beside us. He didn't say anything. Every once in a while, I caught him smiling, but...... Once we started walking on the bridge (that leads you to the US OPen entrance), Devin and I kinda walked together but didn't say a word. When we got to the chinese restruant, all the dad's sat on one side, Devin sat next to his dad, I sat on the other side of Devin and Lily sat next to me. My dad knew exactly what to order. Like Dan said, I am a picky eater. I don't like fish. I don't like when you can see the eyes on the food still. Well, my dad ordered some stuff that I would never eat. Devin, when the food came out, his face has this gross look on it (it made me laugh). He didn't want to try it and either did I. Then, I ate a piece and he tried one. He turned out to like it, unlike me. I gave it to my dad. Devin and I are both very picky eaters. He loves rice though. He did eat alot, unlike me, again. There was still something different about him. He barely talked at dinner. I did get him talking, except it was about something I didn't like. He started saying how boys at his school are into World of Warcraft. Sounds like someone I know. After dinner, Dan went to one of the small markets (the town was like China Town, but wasn't). He bought a 25 pound bag of rice (Devin likes rice)! Devin carried it the whole way back to the subway. We got lucky, right when we got to the right subway stop thingy, it was there and ready to leave. Me, Lily, my dad and her dad got on one cart and Dan and Devin got on the one next to it since the train was gonna leave. As we stood in the train, all I could think about was how excited I was to be able to spend time with Devin that day but didn't get to. And, I didn't even get to say good bye to them. After they got off (since they parked at the US Open), Rob waved bye threw the window, I don't think they saw him. Soon, we had to get off that train and get on a different one. I didn't say a word the whole way to the other train and while we were on the train. Lily kept on asking me why I was so quiet.
Devin and I used to be so close. He was always so funny, playful, teased me. I don't know what happened. I guess.....hes just getting older.
